About West Hill

Originally part of Highland Creek, West Hill received its name when the first post office opened in the area in 1879. The town began to grow in 1906 when the radial streetcar line extended to the community, allowing for faster travel to and from Toronto. But it wasn’t until after world war II that the modern neighbourhood began to form.Offering lakeside living — at much lower prices than The Beaches — and a balance of quiet residential streets and urban convenience, West Hill is a family neighbourhood with a diverse population and a commuter friendly location. Residents live in townhomes, semi detached and detached 2-storey houses, and apartment buildings and West Hill condos.The neighbourhood has a reasonable selection of restaurants and retails stores on Kingston Road — nothing that would leave people in Yorkville feeling envious, but you’ll find all the usual fast food chains and a few strip malls. Additionally, there are financial institutions, salons, repair shops, motels, and a few local watering holes. On the southern end of the neighbourhood are offices, manufacturers, a fitness centre, and Highland Creek Treatment Plant.For families, there are schools in the neighbourhood in the public and Catholic boards, community centres, skating rinks, and playgrounds. East Point Park is nestled against the Lake, home to the Waterfront Trail and Ken Morrish Softball Complex. West Hill has a burgeoning condo scene; there are 8 buildings in the neighbourhood with more in development. Buyers have their choice of townhomes, low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise buildings.Townhomes here are great for families — with spacious units at affordable prices. Bus routes are a little limited in the area but Guildwood GO Station is on the south side for GO Transit.Driver’s have Kingston Road for short trips, and for those who commute, heading north on Morningside Ave will take you to the 401.
