About Willowdale

The first settlers of Willowdale moved into the area in the 1797. The town received its first post office in 1851 with the help of David Gibson — a land surveyor who had fled to the U.S after being branded a traitor for his role in the 1837 upper Canada rebellion, but in true Canadian fashion, he was forgiven and allowed to move back.In modern day, the neighborhood of Willowdale is formed from 3 former postal communities; Newtonbrook, Willowdale, and Lansing.
